Profile national coach Vic Hermans
Having seen and done it all, Vic Hermans (54) is a much-respected coach in the world of futsal. During his playing days the Netherlands coach Hermans was one of Europe's outstanding talents. From 1977 until 1989 he gained 45 caps with the national Dutch futsal team. In those matches he scored 23 goals.
One of the highlights in his players' career was without a doubt the second place at the inaugural FIFA Futsal World Championship in 1989, which was held in the Netherlands. Hermans was voted player of the tournament. Marcel Loosveld, nowadays assistant to coach Hermans, also acted at this tournament.
In 1990 Hermans progressed to coaching. Before he held the Dutch futsal reins in 2001 he coached several club teams and assisted the coach of the national side at that time. Hermans also took charge of the national squads of Hong Kong and Malaysia. With the latter team he won the Asia Cup in 2001. As a FIFA Instructor, the experienced Hermans shares his knowledge of futsal with the rest of the futsal community.
In the past the Dutch and Hungarian futsalteams met eightteen times. With six wons, six losses and six draws a perfect balance. However, in those eightteen matches The Netherlands scored two more goals (49 - 47).
The only encounter between Holland and Uruguay, took place seven years ago at the World Cup 2000 in Guatemala. The current internationals Antoine Merlino and goalkeeper Patrick Thomassen were part of the team that beat Uruguay by 3-1.
The match versus Angola on October 21, will be the first in the futsal history between the two nations.
